Artist’s Statement
Painting for me is a magical journey into my soul and imagination where I find beauty and optimism. One of the results of working many years as an interior designer, equipped with a keen observing eye and a refined sense of aesthetics is a great attraction to the visual world, beauty, and especially to color. These are very important elements that define me and my personality since the day I remember myself, and they are important part of who I am.
Color and texture are the language I use to express my feelings on the canvas. I feel a lot of passion and curiosity to these elements, and I research and drown in it endlessly. For me, it is the subject more than the subject itself, and I am eager to explore it in many techniques from the figurative to the abstract all the way to collage and digital painting on conventional materials and on unique materials such as, aluminum, brass and glass.
Like other painters before me, when I am studying a view or a subject I am about to paint, there is an emotional impression that begins to form in my mind, and as a result a new interpretation, usually less realistic, is being created on the canvas. It happens mainly in my collages where it borders on an abstract style of painting.
I have a good visual memory, which allows me to paint my impressions from a subject even without looking at it, while I paint it. I get a lot of inspiration from nature and the beauty of the world. Just like the impressionists, I am very affected by the influence of light in nature in different seasons and hours of the day. I chase sunsets for example, and they are a very important subjects in my paintings. In addition, I am very inspired by my travels around the world, I am especially attracted to different cultures and their unique colorful costumes, which inspires me to use different materials on my collages.
In the last few years, I have started exploring the digital world on my I-pad with different applications, and it opened a new world for my imagination and illustration capabilities. In addition, due to the Covid pandemic and the lock down, I was not able to purchase new canvases, and thus I started painting on old paintings I did not like. I sat in a meditative state observing the old canvas until I began to see new images that seemed to grow out of the old painting. I followed these shapes with my brush and with every new coat of paint small miracles began to appear, and a new and exciting painting appeared as the world around me vanished.
When I paint, I am in a different type of consciousness than normal. It is a state where I feel one with my soul. I have a lot of joy and optimism in my soul , but they all hide under the layers of my personality in my daily life, and they hardly express themselves until I paint.
I feel a deep passion for painting. This process almost feels like an engine that ignites the canvas with my emotions and erupts in strong vivid colors. I wish to share with the viewer my emotional and visual experience even for a short time.
